[Milipol 2021] Ulbrichts

Ulbrichts is a family-owned company that makes protective helmets and is located in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Germany. They are well known for their titanium and titanium-hybrid that offer effective protection against 7.62x39 ''Kalashnikov'' rounds. Not only stopping the rounds but also preventing fatal trauma by reducing the energy of the rounds from 2000 joules to below 25 joules. Their Zenturion C1300 is often seen used by various European Special Police forces.

At Milipol they showcased one of their latest innovations that is capable of stopping steel core ammunition of 7.62x39 MSC ''Kalashnikov'' rounds. Next to that it also reduces the back face deformation and residual kinetic energy to survivable limits. According to MIL-STD at a certified U.S. NIJ and MIL laboratory the average value of back face deformation of such system hit by 7.62x39 MSC is lower than 10mm.

Back Face Deformation: When a projectile impacts the helmet. The back of the helmet sits, separated by padding against the head. As the helmet stops the projectile, which takes time and distance, the helmet is deformed backward toward the head. How much it is deformed depends on the protective level of the helmet and the energy of the projectile. The distance of deformation is referred as ‘’back face deformation.’’ In the near future I will go more in-depth about this topic.
